Between the Mughal Empire and the British Raj lies a brief window of settlement and peace in which romance bloomed. But the appointment of a new Major General soon destroy this idyll.
Georgian England
An orphaned young woman in England, KITTY, unexpectedly finds a portrait of herself as a young child in Indian dress in the home of her new wealthy neighbour CHARLES STUART recently returned from India.
Having kept a pencil drawing of the portrait from her long dead father’s belongings as a keepsake, Kitty along with her guardian Uncle ROBERT KIRKPATRICK go to the India office to investigate what happened to her father JOHN and why Charles Stuart has a painting of her as a child.
Investigations lead to the revelation of a marriage between her father JOHN and a local Indian princess, KHAIR-UN-NISSA, in India during this idyllic time before the Major General and Charles Stuart arrived to destroy it all.
Further, suspicions arise about Charles Stuart’s wealth and the role he may or may not have played in her parents’ demise. Will Kitty get justice for her parents? Will she have her revenge on Charles Stuart?
